Five VA myths that cost Veterans money
· Claim Situation
The situation
Advice from forums, social media, and even well-meaning friends can cost Veterans money. Here are five myths and what the rules actually say.
Myth: 100% means you can't work
Schedular 100% has no work limit. TDIU does. See types of 100%.
Myth: not in your records, no claim
Lay and buddy statements are evidence. See empty records.
Myth: denied means done
You have three review lanes and one year to protect your date. See Denied?.
Myth: a PTSD rating takes your guns
A rating alone isn't reported. Reporting is tied to an incompetency finding for managing VA funds, which has notice and hearing rights. See competency and fiduciaries.
Myth: filing invites VA to cut you
New claims can lead to exams, but there are protections (38 CFR 3.344, 38 CFR 3.951). See seven checks.
